Sinebrychoff
Sinebrychoff is the oldest industrial brewery in the Nordic countries and one of the most modern companies in Europe’s beverage industry. The company is a part of the Carlsberg Group of Denmark. In 2007, Sinebrychoff sold a total of 415 million litres of various beverages. The system of recycling used bottles in Finland is currently being altered in a joint effort by the beverage and the retail industries. New beverage bottles are being introduced and, from now on, they will be recycled in the same way as cans. According to estimates, this change in the recycling system will reduce environmental impacts and energy consumption. Done Logistics is helping Sinebrychoff implement this change.
Large capacity and flexible operations using top-level logistics
Done Logistics has previously delivered two independently functioning automated picking systems to Sinebrychoff’s logistics centre in Kerava. One of them handled beverage cases on roller carts and the other beverage cases on pallets. These were flexible, integrated systems that allowed for an increase in the volume of deliveries and seasonal fluctuations which are typical to the beverage industry. Done Logistics Oy’s deliveries were extensive and its solutions covered almost all areas of the operations – information systems, mechanical systems, electrification, automation and all functions in warehousing, the picking of orders and dispatching. The majority of beverage orders were picked automatically and the system was able to handle various types of packaging. FidaWare information control system ensured that all the products ordered by a customer were at the right dispatch exit at the right time.
Systems are upgraded as changes take place The two independently functioning automated picking systems delivered by Done Logistics Oy are being further upgraded. The functioning of the roller cart picking system and the automated picking system and the positioning of their picking carts have been flexibly changed so that they can handle the new recyclable plastic bottles. Now, instead of the earlier packaging type, recyclable plastic bottles of various sizes that come on new cell platforms can be picked or stacked on top of pallets or roller carts using the two systems. There is a transition stage in the adoption of the new bottles, during which the systems will handle both old bottle and case types as well as the new recyclable plastic bottles and cell platforms.
