Done Logistics’ development work provides a competitive edge for Nurminen Logistics

Finland’s largest and most modern freight port will be opened in Vuosaari late in 2008, employing about 4,000 people when completed. The new port will replace the ports of Jätkäsaari and Sörnäinen. At a cost of almost EUR 690 million, the port is the largest single logistics project in Finland in recent years.
Nurminen Logistics Plc will at the same time start serving its customers in the port’s logistics area using its full-service logistics warehouse. About 50,000 square metres of efficient and smoothly functioning logistics premises will be built on an 11-hectare plot in three stages.

Nurminen Logistics selected the FidaWare software products of Done Logistics Software as its main internal logistics software solution. FidaWare provides Nurminen Logistics with the opportunity to offer tailor-made service packages to its own customers.
“We were seeking a partner that can provide us with a competitive edge in our industry, a company whose strengths include strong expertise in running projects and extensive experience in information systems projects for logistics. Done Logistics Oy impressed us with its competence and, based on their competitive bid, we went for their tried-and-tested reliability,” says Petri Lindfors, Nurminen Logistics Plc’s Project Director for the Vuosaari project.
“Several different software solution suppliers were involved in the competitive bidding stage for the project. In the end, the Done Logistics solution was found to provide the best productive value for Nurminen and its customers in the Vuosaari terminal premises. In addition, the system solution’s Linux-based architecture gives the product a long lifespan and fulfils the requirements of high availability usage, which, in turn, creates added economical value for our information management,” says Tuomo Ryynänen, Project Manager in Nurminen Logistics’ Information Management unit.
“We have already been delivering internal logistics solutions to Finnish and international companies for years and have a solid experience in various types of project deliveries. Nurminen Logistics Plc is one of the leading suppliers of high-quality logistics services in Finland. By combining their long experience as a provider of terminal services and Done Logistics’ extensive know-how in information system solutions for internal logistics, we will be able to implement a system with which Nurminen Logistics will have the capability of meeting the present and future needs of its customers,” says Ari Suominen, Director of the Software Unit of Done Logistics Oy.
The delivery project was initiated with a specification stage around the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008, when expert teams from Nurminen and Done together defined the new terminal’s integrated functions and the special requirements related to the project’s scope. After the charting of information system and business requirements, which was carried out in the specification stage, the project moved on to the implementation stage during the spring of 2008.
The terminal will be introduced into service in the autumn of 2008, when its operative functions will be comprehensively controlled by the FidaWare software of Done Logistics Oy.
